The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) is a private foundation dedicated to transforming the lives of children living in urban poverty through better health and education. The Foundation has committed more than USD 825 million to global children's issues and community initiatives to date.
In 2006, the Foundation along with CARE India commissioned Intellecap to analyze the potential of urban microfinance in India. Intellecap’s Investment Banking Practice Area facilitated equity investments into Sub-K, enterprise that promotes mobile technology based financial inclusion and Arohan, a microfinance institution in 2011 and 2012 respectively. MSDF was an investor in both these transactions. In addition, Intellecap’s Consulting Practice Area extended advisory support to two MSDF grantees involved in remedial education and vocational skill training. Both organizations were supported by the Foundation to explore sustainable business models that can facilitate a larger scale and potentially attract equity investments.
