Head - Intellecap Impact Investment Network
“I wanted to build a career in impact investing and knew that I needed to understand the enterprises as well as investors in this space from first-hand experience in India. The opportunity to help drive I3N, India's first angel investment network focused on social enterprise, is the perfect stepping stone." ”
I moved to Mumbai from New York to follow my passion for development and try to make a career out of it. Since September 2011, I have been working on creating India's first network of angel investors focused on social enterprise - the Intellecap Impact Investment Network (I3N).
The opportunity to contribute to this pioneering initiative has been incredibly exciting. My work gives me tremendous responsibility and room for creativity and exploration. I get to collaborate closely with entrepreneurs as well as funders, which I believe is a perfect vantage point from which to study this space.
One of my favourite experiences has been spending a few days with a client in a tiny village in the interiors of Madhya Pradesh. It was energizing to witness the transformation that sustainable innovative interventions can bring in the lives of the poor. The experience was an attestation to my belief that there are endless possibilities of contributing effectively and making a difference.
While I was working in mainstream asset management in New York, I was also volunteering on the Young Professionals Board of the American India Foundation (AIF). Eventually I started to realize how much satisfaction my work with AIF, which involved studying and showcasing philanthropic opportunities to donors, gave me.
At Intellecap, my liberal arts education and mainstream experience has enabled me to apply my skills and best practices to bridge the communication and mind-set gaps between investors and impact entrepreneurs. Bringing entrepreneurs closer to the exposure, guidance and capital they need to grow their businesses keeps me going.
This past year has sharpened my instincts and helped me evolve into a more mature professional. It has also helped me discover a new personality trait- I never enjoyed networking very much in the past, but the diversity of people in the development space makes me eager to meet new faces, share their journeys, and explore the possibilities of working together.
My experience at Intellecap has been invigorating and is the perfect stepping stone for the rest of my career.
