My work primarily involves advising and supporting companies in their capital raising process. I help Clients question and validate their business plans and financial models, identify like-minded investors, pitch to potential Private Equity and Venture Capital firms and assist in deal negotiations and structuring.
There is no such thing as a "typical week" for me at work. In a week, I may have to divide my time between advising the promoter team of one of our Clients on capital structuring for a strategic acquisition, visiting rural operations of a business to facilitate investment due diligence for an investor, and mentoring several new joinees in the team. This constant diversity in my work and the need to wear multiple hats stimulates me. I am presented with new opportunities regularly and am encouraged to take ownership of initiatives and drive my own ideas for organizational growth.
Of the projects I have worked on recently, I found fund-raising for an early stage company in the energy sector in India particularly gratifying. The promoter team approached us at an inflection point in their business, where it was essential to find the right kind of investor for them quickly. Today, the company is expanding, both in terms of revenues and the team. They have saved close to 1 million kWH of electricity for clients, over 4 million gallons of oil, and have reduced CO2 emissions to a degree that 300,000 fully grown trees would achieve.
Helping this promoter team and others like them achieve their goals is very satisfactory. I feel I have made a small contribution towards scaling business models that will have a positive impact on the society and environment as well as create value for shareholders.
I have built a strong network of enterprises and funders during my time at Intellecap. My work has been a real eye-opener to the impact that market-based approaches can have when compared with traditional charity-based approaches. I have developed a deep appreciation for the potential and "investment-attractiveness" of mass-market businesses, particularly those working at the BOP. This is an exciting time to be working in this space, and I look forward to growing with Intellecap in roles where I can continue to contribute, learn, and take on additional responsibilities.
