Sankalp 2009, India’s Largest Social Enterprise and Investment Forum, will be held today, April 28, 2009, at the Taj Lands End, Mumbai. Sankalp 2009 is the region’s first investment forum for emerging enterprises as well as ideas that aim to solve pressing issues of the day in a sustainable and profitable manner.

The primary objective of Sankalp 2009 is to bring together various stakeholders sharing a common conviction that capital should be invested to create multiple bottom-line returns (financial, social, and environmental) and not exclusively financial (profit-maximizing) or social (philanthropic) returns.

Sankalp 2009 will address issues in the sectors of:

  • Environment & Clean Energy
  • Agriculture and Rural Innovations
  • Education for All
  • Healthcare Inclusion
  • Highly Scalable Social Impact Models

Sankalp Forum is a brainchild of Intellecap – a pioneer in the multiple bottom line investment industry. Intellecap is a globally-recognized social investment advisory firm serving companies, non-profits, development agencies, and governments working in developing markets.

“Sankalp Forum celebrates the emergence of a social enterprise business community and recognizes outstanding business acumen, the spirit of entrepreneurial excellence, and an opportunity prevalent in the social enterprise space," said Upendra Bhatt, Vineet Rai, and Pawan Mehra, Co-Founders of Intellecap.

Sankalp Forum will also showcase Sankalp 2009 Awards Finalists. Sankalp Awards are recognition of those enterprises that are truly impact makers and have positively generated multiple bottom line impact in their communities. This year’s shortlist includes pioneering companies such as Neurosynaptics, TeamLease, Suminter Organics and 47 others.

The Jury for the 2009 awards consisted of prominent names like Mohanjit Jolly, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Dr. James Tooley, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Moumita Sen Sharma, RBS, Bejul Somaia, LightSpeed Ventures, C.K.
